The POPS Financial Aid Program is for families in
financial need who are unable to afford the cost of POPS programs. As part of POPS’ Mission, we train and nurture
our youths with education in the arts so that they can progress their talents,
foster their creativity and become lifelong ambassadors for the arts. We
believe in inclusiveness and quality – that every student should have an equal
opportunity to participate in the highest quality programs possible. We also believe that finances should
not be a barrier to arts education.
There are two programs available:
1) Financial Scholarship program awards funds based on a combination of demonstrated need and artistic merit. Under-represented groups are encouraged to apply to increase the diversity of POPS productions; and
2) Work Study program awards funds based on prior theater experience and
Director’s needs for a show.
These programs pay only part of the total fees – each
family is responsible for remaining tuition, mandatory tickets ($300);
mandatory ad ($35) and costume rental fee ($60 - $125). $245 is due at audition; $90 plus the
remaining tuition is due on Nov. 6 and the costume fee is due on Dec. 4, 2011.
Financial aid applications must be submitted in advance of auditions for particular programs. All applicants should mail an Application form along with required essays no later than Sept. 6 for the Fall shows to POPs, P.O. Box 397, Manhattan Beach. CA 90266. Scholarship recipients may be required to submit their parents’ most recent W – 2 s or Federal tax return before the scholarship is awarded. Application forms can be found below.
Completed applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the POPS Board of Directors. Limited full and partial scholarships and work study funds are available and not everyone applying will receive aid.
